Humility

So John’s disciples came to him and said, “Rabbi, the man you met on the other side of the Jordan River, the one you identified as the Messiah, is also baptizing people. And everybody is going to him instead of coming to us.” John replied, “No one can receive anything unless God gives it from heaven. You yourselves know how plainly I told you, ‘I am not the Messiah. I am only here to prepare the way for him.’ It is the bridegroom who marries the bride, and the best man is simply glad to stand with him and hear his vows. Therefore, I am filled with joy at his success. He must become greater and greater, and I must become less and less. (‭John‬ ‭3‬:‭26-30‬ NLT)
At this moment John the Baptist is being informed that Jesus is baptizing people in water at another location, and more people are going to Him than to John. Instead to feeling envious or upset that the work he was performing was being taken over by Jesus, he was joyous. John is a humble man, he’s aware of where he stands as a servant of the most High. He was called to prepare the way for the Messiah, and that’s what he did, then Jesus’s arrival ended his preparation. John makes the statement that the Messiah will become greater and greater and he will become less and less. In that, He’s letting God take over, not only in his baptismal ministry but in his life. We need to the same, we need to humble ourselves and give the situation to God, allow Him and only Him to receive the glory, and let Him take over our lives to the point where we become completely new in Him.
Less of me and more of you Lord.
That’s should be our everyday prayer of Humility.
