A fundamental part of my growth during my freshman year at Cornell was being a part of Les Femme De Substance, or Women of Substance. This organization has already began to mold me into the unstoppable Ivy woman that I hope to be. Reflecting back on first year serving as Freshman Representative, and entering my second year on the organization as Internal Relations Coordinator, I remind myself what being a woman of substance means to me.
Here's my original answer to my application from freshman representative almost a year ago, hope it encourages all the young women out there!
Q: Please
tell us what it means to be a "woman of substance" to you?
A: A
woman of substance is like any other woman, graceful and smart and loving,
except for the fact that she is aware. She knows her worth to the fullest no
matter what society tries to feed into her brain. She knows of her brilliance,
her talents, her strengths, all the power she possesses and can offer the
world, she knows. Not only that, but she is ambitious, passionate, and driven by
a vision for her life that she will not stop chasing until she makes reality.
She is confident yet humble, stern yet graceful, and she knows what she wants. An
encourager, supporter, and teacher, this woman empowers the people she
encounters along her journey. She carries herself with poise and grace, and her
powerful presence turns heads when she walks in the room. A woman of substance
is phenomenal and unstoppable, all the while pushing other women to realize
that they can be too.
