We have two parts to ourselves. We have our Spirit side led by the Holy Spirit and we have a sinful nature led by our flesh. Our Spirit and our sinful nature are constantly battling against each other because they have different perspectives. However, as children of God we need to make sure that we’re following the desires of the Spirit because that’s the only way we’ll achieve eternal life. Following the desires of our sinful nature lead to “…sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, envy, drunkenness, wild parties” (Galatians 5:19-21 NLT). People who do these things cannot enter the Kingdom of God. As children of God we need to seek the fruits of the Holy Spirit: “love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control” (Galatians 5:22-23 NLT). Living a life filled with those things will lead to eternal joy in Heaven.
